Nothing gets attention faster than an A/C that quits during a shore-traffic July. The good news is that the causes fall into a fairly short list.
Low refrigerant from a leak
This is the most common cause. Air conditioning is a sealed system — if it is low, it is leaking somewhere. Adding refrigerant without finding the leak means you will be back in a few months.
Electrical faults
The compressor clutch, pressure switches, relays and control modules all have to agree before the system engages. A fault anywhere in that chain means warm air even with a full charge.
Failing compressor
A compressor that is worn or seized will not move refrigerant. Sometimes you hear it — squealing, clicking or a loud clunk when the A/C engages.
Airflow problems
If the air is cold but weak, the problem may be the blower motor, a clogged cabin air filter or a blend door — not the refrigerant side at all.
